In Quinara Health Region, the implementation of the project "Interventions of High Impact: Community Health in Quinara 2014-2016", with co-financing from UNICEF, aims to reduce morbidity and infant mortality in the region. The overall objective of the project is to "contribute to the availability of proximity health services to pregnant women and children under age 5, in the Quinara Health Region."
Through awareness and daily monitoring by 191 Community Health Agents, the project aims to foster the adoption by the families of a number of key family practices that contribute to improving the health status of the population. Also, the project aims to contribute to increased access to health services by the most isolated communities, by conducting regular visits by nurses to these communities, which provide healthcare to pregnant women and children under age 5.
The project, implemented until december 2016, directly benefits 2,889 pregnant women and 10,913 children under age five and, indirectly, the 64,192 inhabitants of the Quinara region.
